You might have done this as a child and the reason may have been more humble than the focus of this article. Growing up in Jamaica, I walked barefoot throughout my yard and by extension my community, mainly because I had but two pairs of shoes – one primarily to be worn to school and the other for all other outings. We spared our shoes because we did not have the luxury of multiple pairs of shoes. Well, I quite enjoyed those days and I actually did not feel more healthy or more in tuned with nature and all forces in the environment.
