“Don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing gonna be alright.” The words of Jamaica’s immortal native son, Bob Marley, still echo in the island nation today. The typical Jamaican response to any request, “No problem,” also sums up the national attitude. And who wouldn’t have a constant smile on their face if they lived in this sun-soaked Caribbean paradise?
Over the course of many years despite our many struggles, we somehow always managed to forget our problems and enjoy our lives with what little we had. But as our living conditions worsen and the culture of violence manifests itself in the offspring of the monsters that our political parties created, we are dropping fast on the happy scale. We feel trapped, held hostage in our own county. We got rid of Dudus but our government cannot protect us. We listen in disbelief as our illusive Defense Minister proclaims that crime is on the decrease.
We are poor and it seems we are killing each other by their design. Now more than ever, we are distrustful of the people who run our lives. How can we maintain the positive outlook on life that we are known for worldwide? Can we win back our society? Are we happy?
This is a page of protest against all forces that threaten the freedom of our people at home and abroad. We will not allow the media to condition our minds and influence our actions. We demand "Emancipation from Mental Slavery".
